The State of My Faith

Kahuna and Beach Bunny walking through a Redwood forest near Santa Cruz, CA

For me, there is nothing like walking through a Redwood forest. The warm, fragrant air and the huge stature of the ancient trees momentarily puts life into perspective for me. It reminds me how temporal life is, and to treasure this time. It also reminds me of a verse from James, "What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes." You know what? That verse kind of makes me think of bathroom spray. The fragrance only lasts a little while. Some mists smell better than others. I want my life to be a fragrant offering... not too sweet or too strong, but pleasing. I've got a lot of work to do.

This leads me to the state of my faith...

I'm reading the book, "Crazy Love" by my friend Francis Chan. A paragraph on the back cover is what hooked me, "It's crazy, if you think about it. The God of the universe- the Creator of nitrogen and pine needles, galaxies and E-minor- loves us with a radical, unconditional, self-sacrificing love. And what is our typical response? We go to church, sing songs, and try not to cuss.

Whether you've verbalized it or not... we all know something is wrong."

This is totally the state of my faith. I know there is so much more that God wants to do. He is moving and stirring. What is it, Lord?

I finished Crazy Love not long ago. It was an amazing book that really challenged me in my faith. I am crazy in love with Jesus, but I don't outwardly show it like I should. Thank you for sharing this post. I love the picture and hope to take my family there someday.

Thank you, Stacy! Want to read Crazy Love soon! Just started "Having a Mary Spirit" and it is speaking volumes to me. "In order to really change, and keep on changing, I needed the kind of attitude Mary had when she left her duties and spent time with Jesus, basking in His presence.", the author writes. I am on an adventure of change and I can not wait to see what happens!!
Thanks for posting!

Love,
Gina

I am right there with you. I feel like I am drifting further away from the Lord instead drawing nearer. I want to put him first but I seem to shove him to the end of my to do list every day.

I really want to read, Crazy Love, as well! I have heard so many good things about it!

Loved this blog post! I feel the exact same way right now! I know there is something more that God is leading me to, but I don't know exactly what it is! I am praying for clear direction and I know that if I am patient and quiet and still, He will lead me! I don't want to just go to church, sing songs and try not to cuss!! I want more!

I have been to the Redwoods and they are absolutely beautiful. We used to live a few hours from there. It's amazing.
