Boots on the Ground- Our Team in Haiti

My husband has been busier than a one armed paper hanger- coordinating supplies, medicines, flights and personnel to Haiti.  Just a few days ago, he sent a team of doctors, counselors and volunteers (from our church) to help in the relief effort.  Kahuna was bummed that he couldn’t go with them.  My broken foot sealed the deal that he should stay home… this time.

Every evening at about 5:00 the team calls on their sat phone and gives Kahuna an update.  Someone has an iphone and was able to send a few pictures, too.  They speak volumes…

This is Scott on the left.  He took most of the pics:

Fifteen days with a compound femur fracture and head laceration. Patient reported his pain was moderate. Tough guy.

This is our dear friend Brian.

This is what Scott said while photographing this scene.  I thought is was so inspiring, “It's cool being a youth counselor to a kid you know is awesome...then he grows up and becomes awesomer. Dane in action.”

Dr. Jolie had the genius idea to write diagnosis and plan on kid’s cast, i.e. femur fracture remove cast march 26th. The info. will be vital for his check up.

Speechless.

A v-collapse and a pancake collapse side by side.

This sweet boy was helicoptered in from the mountains, malnourished...both parents gone.

A team member has fallen in love with him and is going to try to adopt him.

Praying for Haiti and counting my blessings! Those pictures are sad but it's amazing to see some smiles in the midst of their tragedy. What does your husband do to be coordinating relief efforts...sounds very interesting!

Unreal. I have such a heavy heart for everyone in Haiti right now. We have missionaries that were there at the time of the earthquake luckily three of the congregations were healthy. One church is missing half it's congregation. One of my friends moved here a few years ago from Haiti. Her husband had just had surgery for stomach cancer and the next day the earthquake hit. Her parents still live in Haiti. She went a week not knowing anything. In the end all of her family survived but her sister was trapped under a car for four days before being rescued.

God Bless those who are able to get in there and help.

Thank you for sharing. Truly "love" can make the world a better place. Thank you for the "love" the "Love Shack" has shared with us here in blogland...by allowing us to see "what wonderous love" that has been sent to Haiti.

My comment is simple:

I love that your have a heart for missions. I think we would really like one another if we ever had the opportunity to meet face to face. Although I am in love with my new found profession, I am a trained social worker and I have always always loved the idea of reaching out and across and down the aisles...not just across the world, but just across the street. It is wonderful that the Lord has given you and your family a heart for others too. Its very cool.

This has made me cry, I am heartbroken. My faith tells me there will be joy again, just look at the kids in the photo, it's already happening. I have been praying for God to clear the path for those that help to do so safely. Prayers are answered, this is evidence. I can't wait to hear more of what's happening from your blog.

Thank you for sharing these pictures. They are heart breaking. It's impossible to imagine the suffering. We had the awesome privelage of spending time with three children just rescued from Haiti that our friends have welcomed into their home & there are just no words. They are so beautiful and loving..... and have suffered so much.
