My Favorite Word of the Day is...

... "Clear"!

That's what my doctor told me when he stepped into my exam room today. The Melanoma is gone, and all borders are clear. Praise God! I will go back to visit him in one month and then every six months after that.

Did I ever tell you how this all came about?

A couple of months ago I was blog hopping and ran across a post where a woman was being treated for skin cancer. I couldn't get it out of my mind. I thought to myself, "I really should get a skin check because my skin is so fair. I'll do it some day." Then I pressed it out of my mind. Two weeks later, an acquaintance at my son's school told me that her brother died of Melanoma. Again, I heard that soft voice in my head say, "Go and get a skin check." I tried my best to press that voice out of my mind because hey, I felt great, and I could never get something like that.

Two months later I made a dermatologist appointment for Goofy Foot. After his appointment, I asked the doctor to go ahead and take a look at my skin, you know... just so I could get that relentless voice out of my head. The doctor told me that I should probably get a little freckle (near my collar bone) removed one day. "It is probably fine, though," he said. I agreed to have it removed that day, and we were done within five minutes. It didn't hurt at all, and I'm a giant baby!

The pathology report shocked us. The doctor scheduled my little surgery the next day.

I share this personal information with you today to encourage you to listen to that sweet, still, small voice in your own life. I my life I believe that voice to be the Holy Spirit.

On a totally different note, check this out...

My neighbor took this picture on her Blackberry.

Look who's been shopping at our local Costco. I'm so bummed I missed it!

Yay, so, so happy and relieved for you. I have a very similar story and a nice little scar on my back. Saw that a tiny mole/freckle seemed to be darker than the last time I noticed it. I went in...the dermatologist said that it was probably nothing, and 2 days later they were telling me it was stage 0 melanoma (or something to that effect). All I remember is them saying "you won't need chemo if we get it all out". Huh? I was in shock. Needless to say, they removed whatever they needed to around it and I'm also free of melanoma, 6 years and counting. I go once a year for checkups and take better precaution in the sun. I have to say, I don't fit the profile for skin cancer and I thought it would never happen to me either. More people should get checked and listen to that little voice. Thrilled for you, Yahoo!

Glad you posted, I have an appointment at a dermotologist in May- I've had a mark for sometime, that my own doctor isn't concerned about so I am moving on to find someone that can alleviate (and evaluate) my concerns.

p.s. love the Oprah shot (seriously.) Wouldn't it be mortifying/funny if someone had a picture of us at Costco???

I am so glad you are A-OK! My little voice always seems to be right. Now if I would only learn to listen the first time!

I can't imagine seeing Oprah in Costco! What would I say? :) Hope you see her next time!

Praise God!!! It most certainly is the Holy Spirit. That's exactly what that little (sometimes big) voice is... Thanks for listening. I don't always. But when I do, there is a huge blessing in it. Come to think of it... why can't I remember that?

Miss you,
Amanda
